Pat
Murphey's "Magic" Last Voyage
I
first met Pat Murphey in the Summer of 1993 when I was a
massage therapist at the Wunderlich
Center in St. Petersburg. During the next 13
years, she became a long time regular client, friend,
and ardent supporter of our massage therapy. I was
always impressed with her many friends, and attitude of
service. I remember breaking a chain on my bicycle
near her home on Pinellas Point Drive in St. Petersburg,
I called her and she rescued me at once.
She was a person who believed
in She believed in diversity and had admiration for the
customs and religious beliefs
of many cultures. She loved massage and had
experienced sessions all over the world. Her
theory of longevity was, "Boost and Booze"
and because of this we filled our glasses with her with the drink that
she loved most, Smirnoff
Triple Filtered Vodka #21 mixed with tonic
water. We toasted her, and then splashed some into the water when we placed her ashes
under the Skyway Bridge. We choose the
Sunshine Skyway Bridge because she loved to look
at it from her residence in South St. Petersburg
and often joked that because of her advancing age it was
time to jump off it and into the water.
Vicki and I miss Pat very much.
She was a very important part of our lives. She believed
in our massage therapy and told all who would listen
about us. We are thankful that she took the time to help
us with our massage practice.
We were also very
honored that her family invited us to be with them on her
final "Magic" Voyage. Here is what the
St. Petersburg Times had to say about her passing,
" Murphey, Patricia, 89, of St. Petersburg, died
Sunday (Nov. 5,. 2006) at the Allegro at College Harbor.
She was born in Chicago and moved here in June 1975 from
abroad. She worked all over the world as a secretary for
the Department of State. She enjoyed sailing. There are
no known immediate survivors. Eternal Rest Memories Park
& Funeral Home, Dunedin." Farewell, Pat.
You still live in our hearts.
