Neuromuscular Massage Therapy
We offer Neuromuscular Therapy, although broader in scope
can loosely be referred to as Trigger Point Therapy, at
our St. Petersburg Massage Therapy Clinic.
Neuromuscular Therapy can help with pain and injury through
specific and deep work on muscles, tendons ,and
ligaments that me be involved in pain or dysfunction
Chronic problems or a new injury are both usually treatable
with neuromuscular therapy. Some of the many
conditions that neuromuscular therapy may help are: low back
pain, headaches, shoulder and hip pain.
Neuromuscular Therapy uses
sustained deep pressure at tender knotted points which are
called trigger points. Many times these points are connected
to other areas on the body rather than where there there is pain. These are
known as referral points. Properly applied sustained pressure
on the trigger points often results in a "release"
which makes the patient feel better.
Janet Travell, MD was an early researcher of pain and
dysfunction in her patients. She found that many of
the complaints of patients that sought her help could get
relieve with sustained pressure on various muscles in the
body. She and Dr. Simmons wrote textbooks for
